Before he left the house, Cross always stopped in front of the mirror hung on the back of his door, adjusted his collar, ran a clawed hand through his slicked back white hair, stared at his reflection with black and white eyes and a devilish grin. Afterwards, he would routinely reach upwards and unhook his striped fedora from the wall and close his eyes before stepping from the abode's welcoming entrance, naturally imagining loving himself as he locked the door behind him and began sauntering aristocratically down the sidewalk.
