MT Application: Raul D'Esmaraisby *DoctorCritical

My second character for my group, #Malthus-Trap, this time a Queen-dog c: Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about y'all's commissions or art trades or anything, I promise... i'm just doing other things for a little tiny bit, then it's back to catering xD

[Secretive]: Generally, he doesn't like letting anyone know about himself as an individual. Whether this is out of an aversion to tell the truth or simply because he doesn't see the necessity of it, it takes a lot of persistent badgering to get him to cave, and even then it might take several months for him to let anyone in on anything.

[Reserved]: A man of stature, he knows how to keep his head when a situation gets out of hand. Also, he has a certain kind of infectious calm about him that sometimes makes others calm as well, making it easier for him to solve problems when others are involved.

[Professional]: He takes any task he's assigned to very seriously, and lets little obstruct his path when he's determined to get something done. Raul is also very professional in that he doesn't allow emotion or feeling to cross his business; everything he does is because that's how it should have been handled, not because of his own opinions.

[Melancholic]: Inconsistently, but still present. When he is mostly very aloof and level about things, there are some days when he gets helplessly bogged down by thoughts of his past or of his situation. On these days, he often locks himself in his manor and refuses to leave until he sees something worth living for.

[Fearful]: Although he doesn't often show it, Raul is very paranoid about life, and because of past experiences sees the threat of nearly everything. He does not fear death or disease, necessarily, but he is just generally a very nervous person, and tends to be sometimes needlessly suspicious about others' intentions.

[Untrusting]: As is his nature, Raul finds it extremely difficult to trust people whatsoever, and tends not to place a whole lot of eggs in one basket. This is nothing personal, though, and usually he expresses his deepest apology when he doesn't trust someone, making sure not to offend if he can avoid it.

[Aggressive]: As he has gone through a myriad of different offenses throughout his lifetime, Raul is extremely hair-trigger, and easily comes to his own defense when it's needed. This is most often the case whenever he is asked about what's under his eyepatch; as people have given him much disdain and disgust about his eye, he skips directly ahead to the reaction to their criticization, snapping at them to mind their own business.

History
Raul was born in France to an incestuous couple, a male snake Shifter and his human sister. This caused his genetics to go haywire, giving him a forked tongue and the left eye of a bush viper, but no ability to shift whatsoever. His father, a drunk, and his mother, a very low-class courtesan, were in disgust of their child, and when Raul was still an infant they abandoned him on the doorstep of a Catholic church. The priest there expressed disinterest, but his wife immediately took Raul under her wing and raised him in the church.

Raul's childhood was bumpy at best. From the time he could walk he was constantly criticized for his appearance, and so many people sniffed and raised their noses at him that one of his first conscious views of people was of the underside of their chins. Hated by the humans for being part Shifter, hated by the Shifters for being part human, the only solace he could find was by the priest's wife's side, where he could hide his deformity in the folds of her long skirts from the world and be accepted as just another child.

But all was not well, and the outbreak of cholera across Europe, too, would find time to create havoc in the boy's life. Raul was fifteen when the priest's wife, his foster mother, caught the illness, and was bed-ridden for a month before she wasted away under the disease's cruel vices. He was given little time to grieve, and was instantly expelled from the care of the church by the priest, given only enough money for a single meal and a voyage to London to start life anew.

Times were difficult in London. Raul wandered the streets, using dust or mud to mask the gnarled side of his face and searching tirelessly for any odd-end job he could. Shoe-shining, newspaper peddling, horse grooming...it seemed like he had had every sort of job there was to offer when he was found on the streets by a Mr. Augustus Clooney.

Augustus was the owner of a small traveling circus-type establishment. He saw Raul's face and tongue, and decided to let him join the ranks of his guild, offering him none-too-shabby amounts of gold in order to pawn his looks as a side show attraction. Raul's face was soon one of the main attractions of the outfit, and when he turned 16, he decided to peddle a bit differently. Augustus claimed that if a girl was impregnated by such a hybrid, their offspring would have the charisma of a snake, and a myriad of special powers that could be produced nowhere else. Raul was given a much larger paycheck, and in return, he was mercantised has an exotic sort of consort for the show's afterhours.

Although he had many sorts of customers, his were mainly that of a female persuasion, where Raul decided that women were just not pleasant. The ones he dealt with were demanding and catty, and not at all like the priest's wife who had sheltered him so long ago... Women began to disgust him, and he vowed that as soon as he had enough money, he would cancel his contract with Augustus and move on to bigger and better things.

Years passed, and after dozens of paychecks devoted entirely to his own cause, Raul finally could afford to drop out of the side show's corrupted binds and start his last life. After his entire childhood being filled with Shifter children taunting him for his face, he decided to swear loyalty to his Queen, and he served in Her courts. From the get-go he showed many talents when it came to law and governmental process, and in two years' time he had been sworn in to the position of Viceroy. He bought himself an eyepatch, not only to cover his face, but to cover up any reminder of his previous life of being an outcast.

Roleplay Example
What a ridiculous twat, thought the dark corner of the shop. However, a fact that little of the population noted was that there was a person sitting in the darkness, lounging cross-legged at a small wooden table, eating a pastry and skimming over the newspaper with a single half-lidded eye. At the flashes of moving red, he glanced up, angling his head so he could more easily see past the brim at his crown...wait. Was that...? Raul rolled his eyes with a sneer. Fabulous. Now that girl Dhalia, with whom he was very familiar, was lowered to flirting in bread stores, picking up helpless men by the collar to buy her croissants. He snorted and rather moodily turned the page of his paper. Did all women have to be such catty bloodsuckers?

Raul Fun Facts
The combination of his forked tongue as well as his heritage from France, his voice is laden with a heavy accent, that sounds very odd... Kind of like a hissy, high-pitched voice.

He has been virtually forced to participate in sexual activity so many times in his life that the idea disgusts him, and you have to be a pretty special little trick to even BEGIN to get him in bed with you. xD

As a result of his parents being related, not only was he born with genetic imbalances between human and animal (more specifically the hairy bush viper), but he was also born with amethyst eyes and platinum blonde hair, both of which can be characteristics of inbreeding.

The scars over his snake eye are from when he tried to pay a surgeon to remove the rough, scaly skin and replace it with a more normal skin graft... It didn't work. >:
