my character for a new group, Loki, the alpha male of the canine pack! usually I try to stay away from really popular and overused names but this one fit him
plus I guess it helps that Tom Hiddleston wasn't in mind... I was thinking more the Loki from mythology, y'know, the REAL ONE xDgeneral identification

Loki in mythology is a clever beast, cunning and manipulative - this Loki is a bit different. He's a bit of a hothead who believes that if violence doesn't solve your problems you're most likely not using enough of it. Aggressive and extremely territorial, his patience is seemingly always running out, and he's quick to fly off the handle, especially in situations of mental strain. However, despite his generally angry behavior, he makes a fine leader, unafraid to face even the most powerful of foes and surprisingly good at solving skirmishes, however prehistoric the solution may be.
Because of his lineage, he's very insecure about most of his life, as he was the son of the previous leader, very wise and beloved. Loki is constantly comparing his reign to his father's, and therefore can be very defensive when his rank is questioned or doubted.
When he's exhausted, in the middle of a doze, or newly awoken from rest, he's much more docile and is more likely to listen to argument, criticism, or complaints.

history
His father wasn't by any means a relaxed, open-book sort of dog. He was a borzoi of the purest lines, born into the pack as the dog to take leadership after his own father. He was strict, but wise and much beloved, and lead the canines under a shroud of intelligence and safety, and order. But like all shrouds, there can be any sort of run in the fabric...it just so happened that his turned out to be a she-wolf.
Her name was Sky, and like the sky, she was free. She came into the pack as an outsider, mysterious and untamed from some sort of dark forest without a name. Immediately she made ripples in Cairo's order, and replaced the still water with waves. She didn't get along with many of the canines who didn't accept her, and her untamed and wolfish ways stood out like a sore thumb. She and the borzoi alpha, after weeks of constant bickering, met one evening to discuss the plans of her moving on.
The pups were, for lack of a better word, disappointing. They held none of the traits that made the borzoi so quietly elegant, nor did they display the proud wilderness of their wolf mother. The only pup to even look remotely like the borzoi was a bandy-legged, big-pawed creature with bright yellow eyes - this one they named Loki, and he was meant from birth to stay as far away from the alpha rank as possible. The position was planned instead for Loki's brother, a pup with a pretty, light-coloured coat that the pair named Band.
All was well for a long time. Loki and his sister and brother would play together for hours on end, until Band was taken by Cairo to learn the ways of the alpha rank. Even the alpha and his mate were getting along, until the unfortunate evening where the rest of Sky's band of rogues came sniffing back round Cairo's pack - the wolves found the pups, smelled Sky's blood in them, and were furious of the dirt in their bloodline. They started a brawl with the family, and Cairo did well to fight them off until they called a retreat - but not before one of the rogues grabbed Band's leg and dragged him off yelping into the dark, nameless forests.
Cairo was devastated. His favoured son was gone, and because of an influence that he'd never wanted in the first place. When Loki and his sister were old enough to look after themselves, he abandoned the pack, but not before chasing Sky away to live the rest of her life in exile. With no heir to the alpha rank and an unwilling sister, Loki chose to take it himself, teaching himself the ways of leadership however he saw fit and working hard to live in his father's long, dark shadow.
